I Bought AirPods Pro After One Year of It’s Release
Here, what I think about Apple’s premium in-ear headset after one week
Well, probably you are reading this article while listening to music using your your AirPods Pro since it’s been more than a year since Apple unveiled their premium in-ear headset.
Even though I wanted to have this so badly, couldn’t afford it at the time of it release here in Sri Lanka. Therefore, after so many YouTube review videos and web articles, finally I decided to give it a go and purchase it after more than one year of it’s initial release
I’m a very high music and casual podcast listener and here my first week experience with AirPods Pro!
Price
Since I’m living in Sri Lanka, anything related to Apple products has huge margins at any selling agents. The price of the AirPods Pro (by the date of this writing) is ranging between LKR 44000 ($227.19) - LKR 53000 ($273.66) here in Sri Lanka which doesn’t have large margins when comparing to other Apple products like iPhones and MacBook Pros.
So, I bought my AirPods Pro at the price of LKR 46000 ($237.52) which is much closer to it’s original release price ($249) in 2019 . I would very much considered that price as a very premium price for a headset and would not recommend it when you have so many different wireless headset to choose which goes way below this price point.
Connectivity
Probably the biggest reason I went with the AirPods Pro rather than Sony WH-1000XM3. It connects with my iPhone and Macbook Pro in the next second when I get it out of the charging case. I never even ones went back to the bluetooth settings and struggled to connect it until now. It’s so smooth that you never really even have to think about whether it has connected with your Apple device.
Another feature is Multi-device support which you get to switch your audio instantly between your connected Apple device. But, it has not become a smooth experience for me so far.
Once it gets switched while listening from Macbook Pro to iPhone, switching back is not happening as they have marketed in the website. Most of the time, I manually connect the AirPods Pro back to Macbook Pro and it’s kinda let down for a headset with this price point.
Sound Quality
It’s good, but not great. I’m sure there are in-ear wireless headsets with way better sound quality than AirPods Pro with a lower price point. But, AirPods pro is still producing good sound quality which is more than enough for a casual listener like me.
In terms of music, clarify of vocals is superb while it gives flat bass at the lower end. It’s even great to listen to podcasts and watch movies.
Noise Cancelling is mind-blowing for me since this is the first headset I’m using with ANC. I’m sure this is not the best in the market, but it’s filtered out 95% of the sounds I’m getting from the back ground and isolate the inside noice to give a better listening experience.
Transparency mode is something I use very frequency where I get to talk with my family even with AirPods Pro on my ears.
Call quality is superb and it’s even impressive to think how a small device like that captures only the voice, even middle of high noice background.
Convince
Even though AirPods Pro comes with inside ear tips, it starts to give me this uncomfortable feeling in my ears when I wear it for longer duration. This has become a deal breaker for me now and I have now stopped using it for my casual listening until that pain goes away.
Small package of the AirPods pro made it very convenient to carry and also it’s easy to charge with the same iPhone charger.
Even though it’s playback duration is one of lowest in the market, with the new charging case, you can get up to 1 hour listing time with just 5 min charging.
Conclusion
Even though AirPods Pro is not the best sounding in-ear headset in the market, the user experience and the ease of use have made it one of best every day use in-ear headset out there.
Personally, I don’t think the price of AirPods Pro, deliver the value proportions to the customer who are buying it at $249 price point. But it would be the best in-ear wireless headset you can buy if you are in the Apple eco system.
If you are still thinking of buying this, I would suggest you to wait another few months until Apple announces their new line of AirPods and AirPods pro in this year.
